Mr. Matzen has over five years of professional experience as an environmental resource manager. Trained as both a biologist and paleontologist with a background in geology, Mr. Matzen has taken on a wide range of duties as part of his work in environmental consulting. He has experience working on projects at the federal, state, and local level for both natural and cultural resources. Mr. Matzen’s natural resources experience includes documentation, monitoring, and surveying for numerous species including, but not limited to: Peregrine falcons, burrowing owls, and numerous other raptor species; least tern, brown pelican, clapper rail, and other waterfowl; California tiger salamander, California red-legged frog, and other herpetological species. Mr. Matzen has also participated in botanical surveys.

Mr. Matzen has conducted and supervised paleontological mitigation projects from initial assessment, documentation and mitigation recommendations to mitigation implementation, fossil analysis and resource curation. Mr. Matzen’s background in geology and earth science has allowed him to complete geologic features and soils portions for numerous environmental documents. Mr. Matzen’s experience in this regard includes soil erosion control and storm water prevention plans, as well as geoarcheology.
